About Me
I am a story-teller. From the story of a Mauritanian man banished from his own land for his dark skin to that of a dying child in Niger due to lack of food, I tell the tales of underprivileged people whose stories can hardly make it to the mainstream media.
With compassion and sometimes shock, I take the stories of suffering, abused and neglected people to the doorsteps of those people who have the influence and strength to help.
I am a believer in the power of the media. I know how quickly the media can change the world. I grew up following the shadow of those great writers and broadcasters who for decades used their pens and microphones to give voice to the voiceless and to speak out against wrongs and for rights.
I grew up in a world where characterized by ‘the winner takes all syndrome’, a society where a minority prey on the majority. As a child, I obsessed with the plight of the poor and the political powerless. I was angry and bitter that the providers of the local food consumed in my society remained at the lower rungs of the economic ladder. I was frustrated that unless one’s father or uncle worked at the top offices of the government, one could never find a good job.
Those are the issues that drove me into pursuing a career in the art of writing. I write for the oppressed people. But I also write to celebrate the good things of good people of the world.
I broadcast and write for Radio France International, Radio Netherlands World, West Africa Democracy Radio, The Guardian, New African and Xinhua Chinese Press Agency.
